Back in the day

I am taking a black and white film photography class at UND this semester just for fun. I used to love shooting film, and some of my favorite photos were shot with t-max 400 for the Dakota Student. I remember rushing back to the darkroom after an assignment to develop the film. There was always something exciting about not really knowing what you got ... it's so different now with instantaneous results from a digital camera. It'll be good to learn how to be patient again :)

We've just started the class, so I don't have any photos to show you quite yet. But here is one of my favorite photos I took when I was a senior in high school. The sepia tint is actually from the darkroom ... I didn't know how to process it correctly and mixed it wrong, so it got this very weird texture to it that I really like. Although scanning it took away the cool texture and just made it look blurry. But, you get the idea :)

Candy and clean lines

Today I had two really fun assignments for the newspaper, so I thought I'd share some of the photos with you :)

First we visited with a women who makes and sells homemade candies. Oh. My. Gosh. Her caramel was super-tasty. Looking at these photos makes my mouth water!

All of her tasty flavors:
After the candy lady, we went to visit a modern home for our homes section. I LOVED this house! It was so bright and airy. She was an artist, and had a lot of her own artwork hanging on the white walls.

We're on the blog

When we were in Tampa we met up with photographers Joel and Rita Wiebner for a mentor session. I've been checking out the Wiebner's work for about a year and I just love their casual, fun approach to photography (and life!). They were awesome and very helpful in Tampa, and to show our thanks we whipped together a box of North Dakota's finest: the movie Fargo, chocolate chippers, ice, and pasta.

I got an e-mail from Joel and Rita yesterday saying "thanks!" and "we put it on the blog!" Outside our little blog here, we've never been on another blog, so it was fun to see!

You can check out the Wiebner's super-cool new blog HERE
Mmmm, chippers!
Joel and Rita's son Zane likes the chippers! We North Dakotans know how to make a vegetable taste good! Just dip it in chocolate!

Kory at the beach

After learning all sorts of fun things at our photo convention, Kory and I hit the beach to take some photos with the tips we learned. Here are my snaps of Kory. Up next, Kory's photos of me :)

Ha! This one cracks me up. Check out K's serious model face.
